UDF PRESS BRIEFING

United Democratic Front (UDF) presidential candidate Atupele Muluzi has raised concerns over alleged electoral irregularities and called for a recount in several districts

Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, Muluzi thanked supporters for their patience and dignity during voting, while stressing the importance of safeguarding Malawi’s democracy.

Muluzi alleged discrepancies between announced figures and polling station records, altered or unsigned results sheets, and mismatched vote totals.

He cited tally centres in Machinga, Mangochi, Balaka, Zomba, and parts of Blantyre as areas of concern.

The UDF has asked the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to publish certified copies of all results sheets from the affected districts and to conduct a transparent recount of ballots, with party representatives and observers present.

The candidate confirmed that his party has lodged formal complaints with MEC, submitted evidence, and instructed its legal team to pursue remedies.

He also urged Malawians to remain calm and resolve disputes through proper channels.

MEC is yet to respond to the UDF’s demands as it continues verifying results from the September 16 Tripartite Elections.
