MACRA Warns Broadcasters on Truthful and Responsible Reporting
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has reminded broadcasters to uphold truthful, accurate, and objective reporting, especially during the election period.
Citing Sections 23, 25, and 26 of the Communications Act Schedule 2, MACRA Director General Daud Suleman emphasized:
- News must be reported truthfully, accurately, and objectively.
- Reports based on opinion, rumour, or allegation must be clearly identified as such.
- If any material error is found, it must be rectified without reservation or delay.
MACRA warned that any violations will attract regulatory sanctions. The Authority continues to monitor broadcasts to ensure compliance.
